HARTFORD BID TURNS OVER DOWNTOWN LIGHTS PROJECT TO CITY
HARTFORD, Wis. — June 10, 2019 —The Hartford Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) announced today that after two years of fundraising and installation, the BID is turning over the Downtown Lights infrastructure project to the City of Hartford.
The City has owned the lights since the project’s inception, but a core group of volunteers from the BID conducted a fundraising effort to raise $200,000 to pay for the permanent LED color-changing lights and their installation. Installation began last summer and the BID achieved its fundraising goal in September 2018. The group held its official “Turning the Lights Back On” event during the Hartford Christmas Parade on November 10th , 2018. Since that time, the buildings have been lit every night with different colors for various holidays, events and special occasions.
“We are so thankful to the Hartford community for supporting the Downtown Lights project,” said Wendy Dulak, BID board member and Downtown Lights committee chair. “Our goal was to bring back some of the warmth, vibrancy and magic of downtown, and everyone from community members to property owners helped us achieve that goal. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without everyone’s support and we are so grateful. It is so much fun to come downtown and see what color the lights are!”
The LED lights are manufactured by a company called Inception Lighting, and downtown Hartford has one of the first operational rooflines of its kind in the world. Downtown Hartford is a beta test site for Inception Lighting which means that sometimes colors will be different and/or moving in different patterns or directions while the lights are tested.
