Are You A Downtown Hartford Business or Building Owner?
Below are resources we hope will be helpful to you as you navigate your business life in downtown. If you have suggestions for resources not yet listed here, please email them to us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to these links, please join and stay active in the Downtown Hartford BID Communication Facebook Group. This group was created for the purpose of discussing and getting feedback from your fellow business/building owners on real-time issues facing you and downtown.
Parking Passes & Downtown Parking Map
New business owner in downtown? You and your employees will likely each need a parking pass for parking in one of the city lots in order to avoid getting a parking ticket(s). These passes are currently available at Faith and Giggles. Contact them directly to obtain your passes, as well as for more information on available lots.
Sidewalk Snow Removal and Winter Parking
Snow and ice must be removed from city sidewalks within 12 daylight hours after the snow and ice event is over. For details, review the city's Snow & Ice Removal On City Sidewalk Policy.
From December 1st through March 31st, no vehicles can be parked on the city streets between 3am and 6am. For details, review the city's Winter Parking Regulations.
Building Business Usage
Wondering what kinds of businesses your downtown building can house? Review the city's Chapter 13 Zoning Ordinance (jump to page 37) for more information on permitted and conditional uses in our business district. Note: Per the city, “all businesses located in the BID district are in B-3 with the exception of City properties (City Hall, Rec Department, Library), which are I-1 Institutional”.
Need to put up a new sign for your business? Make sure you work with the city and follow their requirements. Under the city's Chapter 13, Zoning document, review Section 13.006 - Signs and Graphics (jump to page 90).
Local sign company, SignWorks, is also a valuable resource. They know the rules inside-and-out and can work with you to create your desired sign.
Business/Building Funding Resources
In need of some additional capital for funding business or building improvements?
In 2018, the BID board awarded money to several building owners for facade improvement. The board is again funding/facilitating the Facade Improvement Program in 2019: Here is the information that went out to building owners in January, with all the program details. Applications are due no later than March 15, 2019.
Local banks are also great resources to contact and potentially partner with for your building improvements or in obtaining business loans. For example: Read more about First National Bank’s Downtown Revitalization Loan Program.
The Hartford Police Department is a great partner of area business and building owners, and is located downtown on Main Street. If you have a non-emergency issue or question, reach out to them at (262) 673-2600.
Note: The police department also opens and closes/locks the Main Street Link Building, and has access to that building's video surveillance.
Downtown Hartford Facebook Page
In addition to Downtown Hartford BID Communication Group (for business/building owners only), Downtown Hartford also has a Downtown Hartford Facebook Page that is available to the public. This is a great page for business owners to follow, re-post from and share with Facebook followers.
We are looking for resources for downtown window washers to post here. Have someone you use that you like? Email us to let us know: email@example.com
Building owners: Make sure your building’s fire extinguishers are up-to-date. A great local resource is County Wide Extinguisher. Contact them directly to get a quote for them to either service the extinguishers on-site or for drop-off service (they are located in Hartford).
Link Building (Main Street Building) Advertising Info
The BID board will be reviewing advertising in the Link Building and will be posting advertising costs and guidelines for businesses. In the interim, if you are a business that may be interested in advertising, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will let you know the details as soon as they are posted.
The Chamber of Commerce is the BID’s partner for all the main downtown events and should be contacted directly if you have questions about any upcoming or past event that is listed on the Chamber’s Events Calendar. Note that we, as the BID board, also share links to these Chamber events on this website via our events calendar.
We know that many of you business owners regularly hold additional classes, meetings, and other events in your businesses that you aren’t posting on the Chamber’s events calendar, but rather through your social media pages or websites. We are happy to post these on our downtown events calendar for you, provided you send us a web link or otherwise email all details to us at least (7) seven days before the date of the class/meeting/event. The events links/details should be emailed to: email@example.com. Please give us 2-3 days to get your date(s) on our calendar. We will post up to (3) listings per business per calendar month. Note: To prevent a doubling up of info, please DO NOT send us details on any classes/meetings/events that you plan to or already have contacted the Chamber about.
